Job Description

The Surveyor – Civil is responsible for providing setting-out, control and as-built survey support to the civil works construction team, ensuring that works are constructed in the correct position, alignment and level in accordance with approved drawings and design data. The role provides continuous survey support throughout construction, from establishing site control through to as-built verification and handover records.

Key Responsibilities

Setting-Out & Survey Control:

· Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks and reference grids across the site and alignment.
· Set out (stake) alignments, levels, gridlines and reference points for earthworks, structures, drainage, depot and online buildings from approved drawings and design data.
· Carry out routine and specialized surveys — topographic, cross-section and volume/quantity surveys — to support construction planning and progress measurement.
· Verify and check the setting-out of contractor survey teams prior to construction of key elements.

As-Built & Monitoring Surveys:

· Carry out as-built surveys to verify that constructed works conform to approved design and specified tolerances.
· Prepare and issue as-built drawings and survey records to support QA/QC verification and handover documentation.
· Support monitoring surveys — such as settlement, deformation and alignment checks — for structures, earthworks and track-related works.

Survey Data Management:

· Process and manage survey data using relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent) and maintain accurate coordinate registers.
· Maintain accurate survey records, field books, calculation sheets and instrument logs.
· Prepare survey reports and progress/quantity records to support project management, QA/QC and commercial teams.

Coordination & Compliance:

· Liaise with site engineers, QA/QC and contractor survey teams to coordinate setting-out, verification and monitoring activities.
· Ensure all survey work complies with project specifications, coordinate systems/datums and applicable standards.
· Maintain, calibrate and care for survey instruments and equipment, reporting any defects or calibration issues promptly.
· Support the investigation and resolution of survey-related queries, discrepancies and non-conformances.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

· Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years' construction/site surveying experience, including setting-out and as-built survey work.
· Proficiency with survey instruments (total station, GNSS/GPS, levels) and survey/CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
· Middle East / UAE experience is highly advantageous.
· Rail or major infrastructure project experience is preferable.
· Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
